Behind every good business is a great team — here’s ours.
Get to Know the Team at Your Business Angels
Gavin Waring – CEO, Founder & Relentless Advocate for Business Freedom
Your Business Angels – Est. 1995
Some people start businesses. Gavin Waring started a crusade.
As the founder and director of Your Business Angels, Gavin has spent over 30 years fighting the good fight for small and medium businesses across Australia. Not the glossy, boardroom kind of business — but the boots-on-the-ground, sleeves-rolled-up, “we’re late on BAS and the ATO’s at the door” kind. His mission has always been the same: to help real people survive, rebuild, and thrive in a system that often forgets them.
Gavin’s journey didn’t begin in a suit behind a desk. He’s lived behind the Iron Curtain, crossed deserts in North Africa, walked the barrios of South America, and spent years in Europe absorbing cultures, languages, and — above all — perspectives. It’s this worldliness that shaped his belief in freedom, responsibility, and the power of enterprise.
You’ll never catch him quoting corporate fluff. He doesn’t worship bureaucracy. In fact, he’d rather set it on fire (politely, of course — with a professionally worded blog post). Gavin is deeply allergic to red tape, and he’s spent decades showing clients how to cut through it, avoid it, or in some cases, tie it into a noose and hang bad debt out to dry.
At the heart of it all is his passion for people. Gavin believes that when you remove the fear — of tax, of insolvency, of failure — you make space for creativity, innovation, and growth. That’s why Your Business Angels isn’t just about accounting. It’s about accountability. It’s not about compliance for compliance’s sake. It’s about clarity, control, and building something worth waking up for.
Whether he’s staring down a Director Penalty Notice, restructuring a business in flames, or advising a client on how not to lose their house and their hope, Gavin brings strategy, wit, and an unshakable sense of what’s possible — even in the darkest moments.
Because after 30 years, he’s seen it all. And if you’re willing to do the work, he’ll be in your corner the whole way.
Anne – Systems Strategist, Software Whisperer & Backbone of the Backend
Strategic Systems & Development | Your Business Angels
Some accountants manage numbers. Anne redesigns the battlefield they fight on.
With over 40 years in the industry, Anne has seen every version of accounting — from 10-column worksheets to real-time cloud platforms. She’s the one who doesn’t just understand how the systems work; she builds them, reshapes them, and then teaches the rest of us how to use them properly. If there’s a glitch in the matrix, Anne already has a fix — or she wrote the patch while you were still panicking.
Anne is the architect behind our technical operations and one of the key minds driving our evolution into automation, AI, and smarter workflows. She’s not just across the detail — she is the detail. Her spreadsheets are surgical. Her logic is watertight. And her strategic insight into how businesses really function under pressure is invaluable.
Clients who work with Anne don’t just get advice — they get a path forward that’s both practical and precise. She tells it like it is, structures what feels chaotic, and delivers clarity, even in the most tangled financial messes. And once she’s in your corner, the ATO, dodgy software, and business fatigue don’t stand a chance.
When she’s not building backends or diagnosing business dysfunctions, Anne can be found perfecting her golf swing (there’s method in that too) or sipping a double coffee combination that should frankly come with a warning.
Anne doesn’t just keep the wheels turning — she reinvents the machine when needed. And if AI ever does take over accounting, there’s a good chance she quietly coded it… somewhere between a forecasting model and a BAS lodgement.
Luna – Senior Tax Specialist & Master of the Compliance Maze
Tax and Compliance | Your Business Angels
Luna doesn’t make a lot of noise — she makes solutions.
As our senior tax specialist, Luna is the quiet force behind some of the most complex and high-stakes work we do. She knows the Australian Tax Act like most people know their morning coffee order — and she handles it with precision, calm, and an eye for what really matters.
While others panic over FBT, Division 7A, or the latest ATO ruling, Luna is already deep in the legislation, untangling it line by line and building a plan that protects our clients. She’s not just accurate — she’s strategic. Whether it’s tax planning, compliance clean-ups, or pre-empting problems clients didn’t know were brewing, Luna’s approach is steady, smart, and always one step ahead.
Her clients may not always hear the gears turning — but they always see the results. Clear advice. Bulletproof lodgements. And when needed, a pathway out of trouble that’s grounded in both law and logic.
Inside the firm, Luna is the go-to when things get curly. She’s trusted not only for her knowledge but for the care she takes with every file. She’s a quiet achiever, but one we absolutely couldn’t do without.
When she’s not decoding tax law, Luna finds her peace outdoors — hiking trails with no spreadsheets in sight. Her coffee order is simple (latte), her spreadsheets are impeccable, and her sense of professional discipline is something clients come to rely on year after year.
Luna doesn’t just keep us compliant. She keeps us prepared. And in a world of tax traps and regulatory red tape, that’s the kind of quiet brilliance every business needs in its corner.
Jay – Senior Accountant, Tax Strategist & Quiet Anchor
Senior Tax & Accounting | Your Business Angels
Jay doesn’t make a fuss — he makes things work.
With 19 years in the accounting profession (14 of those with Your Business Angels), Jay brings experience that’s as solid as baked titanium and twice as reliable. He’s the kind of accountant who doesn’t just practise the art — he implements it in every client’s business. For Jay, numbers aren’t theory. They’re tools. And every tool has its time and purpose.
His passion? Making sure clients pay the least tax they legally can — no fluff, no fuss, just strategy. Jay knows the Tax Act like the back of his hand, but what sets him apart is his ability to understand a business’s pattern. He reads a set of accounts like others read a novel — and within a few minutes, he already knows the story, the plot holes, and how to rewrite the ending.
Jay is the kind of professional every team needs: calm, capable, and clear-headed. He mentors younger staff with the same no-nonsense focus he brings to client work. His advice is direct, informed, and always tailored to the real world — not the textbook. He understands that eight out of ten business problems aren’t just about money — they’re about people, pressure, and personal distractions. And he solves them with clarity, structure, and care.
Clients may not always realise how much he does behind the scenes — but they feel it. Things stay compliant. Problems are pre-empted. And when the taxman comes knocking, Jay already has the answer.
Outside the office, Jay unwinds in nature — often watching his backyard apple tree as it withstands wind, rain, and time, only to blossom again. A quiet metaphor, perhaps, for his approach to business and life.
Jay doesn’t talk himself up. He doesn’t need to.
His clients say it best: “I trust you.”
Abby – Client Coordinator & Future Accounting Force
Client Services | Your Business Angels
Every great professional has to start somewhere — and Abby is making that start count.
As one of our junior client coordinators, Abby is already carving out her place with curiosity, consistency, and a deep drive to help. She’s studying, learning, and absorbing everything she can, all while working directly with clients to bring order, calm, and clarity into their financial lives.
Her signature line around the office? “Anyone want any help?”
And she means it.
Abby is often the first to raise her hand to support the team or a client in need. She asks the questions others hesitate to ask — not just to get the job done, but to understand the “why” behind the work. That attitude is what’s helping her grow from an eager junior into a true client advocate and trusted team member.
Her work focuses on client communication — the weekly check-ins, the reassuring updates, and the practical solutions that keep our clients steady even when things feel chaotic. She knows the value of writing things down, following up, and making sure clients know they’re not alone when they’re under financial pressure.
Abby may still be early in her career, but her energy, heart, and hunger to learn are already making a real impact. She brings colour and care to everything from spreadsheet formatting to helping a client breathe easier after a hard week.
When she’s not coordinating client needs or mastering the art of the follow-up email, Abby fuels up on cashews, taps her toes to David Guetta, and occasionally dreams of a world where beauty therapy and accounting could co-exist.
Abby isn’t just part of the future of Your Business Angels — she’s already helping build it, one client at a time.
Emma Zanon – Client Coordinator & Calm Force of Progress
Client Services | Your Business Angels
“The quiet achiever” is a cliché — but when it comes to Emma, it’s simply the truth.
Since joining Your Business Angels at 19 with no prior accounting experience, Emma has steadily grown into one of our most dependable client coordinators. She’s the type who doesn’t make noise — she makes progress. Files move, queries get answered, clients feel heard, and missing documents are chased with polite relentlessness.
Emma brings consistency, focus, and a natural ability to adapt to new processes. She keeps the wheels turning not by pushing, but by calmly ensuring everyone — clients and accountants alike — stay gently nudged in the right direction. She’s a systems thinker, with colour-coded emails, clean formatting, and a healthy respect for the power of a well-kept checklist.
Emma’s strength lies in clear communication. Her clients trust her not just because she solves problems, but because she listens. When a business owner is under pressure, she doesn’t rush them — she explains the steps, finds solutions, and offers steady support that takes the panic out of paperwork.
Internally, Emma is one of the early adopters — always ready to implement new tools, refine systems, and ask the right questions to keep improving. She’s also the one whose work quietly clears the path for others to shine.
Outside the office, Emma’s world is neatly structured — think weekly meal prep, high-protein yoghurt, and a love of fitness. But if you ask her what her dream job might be? Fashion label founder, with a sideline in personal training. Because calm efficiency always has layers.
Emma doesn’t chase recognition. She builds trust, gets the job done, and leaves both clients and colleagues better for it.
Tyson – Client Accountant, Spreadsheet Gladiator & Emotional Support Accountant
Accounting | Your Business Angels
Tyson doesn’t ease into his day — he powers into it, gym session already done, ready to hit the desk, the clients, and whatever chaos Xero tries to throw his way.
He’s the kind of accountant who blends accuracy with absurdity in the best way. Underneath the jokes, music playlists, and casual arm-wrestling losses to the CEO, Tyson delivers sharp, reliable accounting support to a wide range of clients. From the tricky ins and outs of Stripe and AfterPay integrations to payroll nightmares and messy BAS reconciliations, he’s got it covered — and he explains it all in plain English.
What makes Tyson stand out is his ability to calm the chaos. Clients under pressure don’t get jargon — they get clarity. They get someone who listens, who breaks things down, and who never bluffs when the answer’s not obvious. Tyson knows when to escalate a problem and when to simply sit down and power through it.
He’s also soaking up knowledge from every corner of the firm — Jay for deep technical questions, Gavin and Simone when things smell like insolvency, and the occasional wise word from Kathleen, his “Accounting Yoda” when the spreadsheets threaten to become nightmares.
Inside the office, he’s already known for his speed, his wit, and the odd quip about Xero needing to just auto-reconcile already. Outside the office, he winds down with his partner, avoids Saturday pilates (barely), and claims to be civilised thanks to his afternoon tea habit.
Tyson might joke that he’s just an “emotional support accountant,” but don’t be fooled — he’s already earned the trust of some of our trickiest clients, and his trajectory is sharp. Reliable, fast-thinking, and unafraid to learn out loud, he’s a future powerhouse and a current asset.
Also: if he ever goes missing during payroll week, check the tea cabinet and the 2000s emo playlist.
